MOVING BODY 

educational contemporary dance platform

Moving body is an educational platform in the field of contemporary dance that encourages young choreographers and dancers from Bulgaria and Europe in their career development, and makes possible the access to contemporary dance classes for a wide range of art lovers.

 Its aim is to present the dance as a practice that ignites imagination and emotionality, and cultivates curiosity and creative attitude towards life to the youth audience.The third edition of the platform, organized by contemporary dancer and choreographer Iskra Ivanova, and cultural studies expert Svetlozara Hristova, will be held in 2018.

 

Iskra Ivanova (1988) was born in Varna where she graduated in Choreography and Dance Pedagogy. She improved her dance skills through participation in various workshops led by renowned experts in the field of contemporary dance and performance such as Doris Uhlich, Philippe Saire, David Zambrano, Nigel Charnock, Lezley Baker, Christian Bakalov, Galina Borisova, among others. Since her graduation she works on her own projects and solo performances. She is also involved in various collaboratively-created dance projects which have been presented at some well-established festivals: Sofia Dance Week International festival of contemporary dance and performance, Ne Fest Festival of independent and experimental art, RADAR Festival Beyond Music, etc. Besides, Iskra loves to experiment with different media such as experimental movies, video installations, photographic images. She is interested in the role of the audience in a live performance, and in her work she researches different approaches to activate the position of the spectator. 

 

Svetlozara Hristova (1987) was born in Varna and graduated in Cultural Studies from Sofia University in 2011. During her studies she also completed a one-year qualification course in dramatic theatre acting at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. She has participated in different ateliers in the fields of contemporary theatre and dance, for example, the contemporary dance ateliers directed by Krasen Krastev and Christian Bakalov (2015-2016), the dance-theatre atelier with Mila Iskrenova (2012), and the theatre atelier led by Margarita Mladenova and Ivan Dobchev (2010). She has contributed to the the concepton and overall vision of the collaborative performances THE SPACE IN BETWEEN (2016), A pack of wolves whispering love in the dark (2012), and An Esquisse in Purple (2011). Due to her love for her hometown and the belief that cultural life in Bulgaria needs decentralization, she returned to Varna where she became a founder member of SIDEA Cultural Development Foundation which focuses on producing and distributing projects in the field of art and culture.
